Martin brings extensive experience in portfolio management and holistic client advisory. He is an internationally recognized financial market and investment expert (quoted in various business magazines and newspapers incl. POLITICO, Bloomberg Brief and Handelsblatt), book author, chief editor, and speaker in ETFs/ETP and Structured Products related topics too. In summer 2007, a year before the Lehman Brothers collapse, he published one of the first insistently warnings about the U.S. mortgage market and toxic CDOs. His career spans two continents and includes work for firms in the U.S., Switzerland and his native Germany.

Well versed in both U.S. and European capital markets, he leverages his bicultural background and experience to provide sophisticated solutions to its clients. He, together with his wife Kathrin, frequently commutes between the U.S. and Europe—with a strong passion for Southern-style BBQ as well as the beaches of Hilton Head Island and Southwest Florida’s Gulf coast.

He started his career as a private banker in 1996. Afterward, he emerged into the capital markets division of a large bank and its institutional asset management. Subsequently, Martin worked for State Street, servicing in a JV PIMCO’s institutional funds business in Munich, London, and Newport Beach/CA. After five successful years, heading the equities and commodity product development of BayernLB, he switched to the world of financial media as Executive Director of Derivative Partners in Zurich, Switzerland’s leading financial media enterprise. Subsequently, he took responsibility as Senior Investment Manager and Board Member of a Single Family Office domiciled in Switzerland.

Furthermore, he is a founding partner of a U.S. ETF-boutique, former publisher of the ETF Radar Magazine, and advisor to a smart beta indexing partnership with the New York Stock Exchange. Martin was Senior Advisor to the Board of MYRA Capital AG, headquartered in Salzburg and Frankfurt. Martin oversees Sugarwood’s strategic direction and portfolio management process. His profile is rounded off by a faculty degree in business administration from the Technical University of Munich and various capital market certifications.
